The BMSHS: Where we are; Who we are; What we do.

Founded in 1974 on the occasion of the village’s 75th anniversary, the mission of the Briarcliff Manor-Scarborough Historical Society is to promote lasting interest in the history and traditions of the community. In doing so, it seeks to:

  • Promote and encourage original historical research,

  • Gather, preserve, display and make available for study artifacts, relics, books, manuscripts, papers, photographs, and other records and materials relating to the history of Briarcliff Manor and Scarborough, the surrounding area and the State of New York,

  • Encourage the preservation and suitable marking of places of historic interest.

We maintain an office and exhibit room in the lower level of the current Village Library building. There you are welcome to view, with our staff, our extensive collection of photos, maps (200+), books (300+), journals. memorabilia and items of historic interest that are today part of our growing archives. We welcome the opportunity to share these with you as you learn more about our past.

The Historical Society depends on volunteers to undertake and support its activities. We welcome all who are interested in dedicating their time in assisting us. In addition, we have limited opportunities to support unpaid internships for high school and college students who are interested in local historical research and in maintaining our collection. For volunteer or internship opportunities please click here.

We are located on the lower level of Briarcliff Manor Library at One Library Road.  We are usually here from 9:00am to 4pm on weekdays, and "if the door is open, we're open." Occasionally we’re not there, so please call on the number below, or contact us by email before coming. Appointments are also available.
