EILEEN O'CONNOR WEBER SCHOLARSHIP
Each year the Briarcliff Manor-Scarborough Historical Society presents a scholarship award to a deserving Briarcliff Manor High School senior, in honor of one of the Society's founding members, Eileen O'Connor Weber.
For those of you who aren't lucky enough to have known Eileen, she was Briarcliff Manor personified. Born and raised in Briarcliff, she graduated from Briarcliff High School in 1936. Having graduated from Briarcliff's Edgewood Park Junior College, she went on to an illustrious career in real estate and worked tirelessly for the village throughout her lifetime. In March 2010, BMSHS dedicated its new quarters at the library in Eileen's honor. She passed away in late 2012 at the age of 94. She was an amazing, one-of-a-kind woman.
The scholarship was created in 1995 in Eileen's name as an investment in the future--not only for the recipient, but also for the community. The accomplishments of previous Eileen O'Connor Weber Scholarship awardees have shown that we have recognized true winners and leaders.
Each year BMSHS accepts applications from graduating high school seniors who meet the criteria described in the attached application, which includes the submission of an essay about a person, place or event in Briarcliff that has special meaning to them; describes their community and self-development activities; and explains how the EO'C.W Scholarship would specifically help them.
In addition, the Scholarship Committee will conduct a personal interview with each applicant to determine the recipient of the award.
We encourage all our high school seniors to consider submitting an application for this $500 award.
